Hans Rosenström

Hans Rosenström works with spatial installations that deal with the viewer’s psychological and physical relationship with a specific moment or space. He uses various materials, including sound, text, lights and constructed elements. The emphasis is on the presence of the viewer. The work is not complete until it is experienced. The execution and presentation of the work are always site-specific. Rosenström is particularly well-known for his sound works on headphones, designed to be experienced by one listener at a time.

Hans Rosenström (b. 1978, Lohja) lives and works in Stockholm. He graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, and also studied at Malmö Academy of Art. Rosenström has actively participated in group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad, for example, at Schwarz Foundation, Athens Conservatory, Greece (2019); the 1st Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Riga (2018); the Aros Triennial, Århus, Denmark (2017); L’Été Photographique de Lectoure, France (2015); the Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, USA (2014) and at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2014). His solo exhibitions have been shown at various galleries, and at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art in Vaasa, Finland (2019); at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Finland (2017, in collaboration with Stormglas) and at Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden (2011). He was awarded the Finnish Art Association’s Ducat Prize in 2011, and was a candidate for the biggest art prize in Finland, Ars Fennica in 2015. Rosenstöm’s works are included in such public collections as Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Amos Rex, EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, and the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection.
